![]() One of the best things about picking the Physician path is that it provides hefty boosts to support and damage mitigation abilities. It's much more of a support path than the other Plague Doctor ones on offer. The Physician can be a useful path, but it's also quite a tricky one to master. Science won't be much use until upgraded either (at which point it becomes strong), but it can remain low priority over other hero skills for awhile. Grenade is your top priority upgrade, with Blast not far behind that. This is frustrating but not completely unmanageable, especially if you pick up a trinket that gives you an overall health boost.Ī stock Alchemist build operates from Rank 3 or 4 (the latter preferred due to low HP) and runs Noxious Blast, Battlefield Medicine, Plague Grenade, Indiscriminate Science, and Magnesium Rain, generally swapping out Rain for Cause when bossing. The downside of picking the Alchemist path is that it starts you off with 20% less max health than usual. These resistances can really stack up in battle, especially if you're facing off against a boss who favors fire attacks or blight damage. This path also provides the following resistance buffs: The Alchemist path gives Paracelsus a +33% higher chance of inflicting blight damage, as well as a 10% higher chance of a critical strike when using blight-oriented skills. If you're going for a DOT-focused build with Paracelsus on your team, this is the path that you'll want to pick out. (Cause of Death is an option as well, though you'll want Runaway for it.) Should you run Surgeon in Rank 1 or 2, swap Gas for Disorienting Blast. Gas is arguably an unusual choice, but it's pretty strong when upgraded, particularly if your comp runs Pull and can nail every enemy with it, and even better again if it combos with backline skills like Runaway's Firefly. You can adjust a little here and there as your team comp dictates, but this is an all-purpose skill suite that can complement just about any team comp nicely. Incision should be your priority upgrade the other skills are flexible. It works well in bleed comps and tank-heavy comps, and can fit into other builds nicely, as well.Ī stock Surgeon build is run in Rank 3 and includes Blinding Gas, Incision, Battlefield Medicine, Indiscriminate Science, and Magnesium Rain. That being said, this is one of the most powerful Plague Doctor paths in the game. Darkest Dungeon 2 does somewhat favor DOT attacks, so this can be frustrating. This is true for the Surgeon path, as there's a -33% chance of a Surgeon inflicting a blight DOT on an enemy character. There's also a 33% buff to healing given, meaning that abilities like Battlefield Medicine are much more powerful and less inconsistent during battle.įor almost every path in the game, there's a downside. The Surgeon path also gives a 50% damage boost, which can make abilities like Incision all the more powerful. It also increases team comp flexibility if needed as he can survive in the front ranks. As Paracelsus isn't a particularly sturdy character and can theoretically be taken down in a few hits, this can make a huge difference in battle. Surgeon is one of the best Plague Doctor paths, simply due to the fact that it starts you off with a 25% health buff. It's also a good way to get a feel for the character if you're not used to the move set yet. If you're just starting out playing the game and you want to save up candles to unlock other heroes like the Hellion or Occultist, this is a great reason to try it out. The benefits of picking Wanderer is that you'll receive extra candles each time you visit an Inn. There isn't much to note about this path, as it's the default setting and doesn't add any interesting modifiers or challenges into the mix. Wanderer is a hero path that's available for all heroes right from the start.
